The 19th Annual

Mississippi Afterburner Jet Rally

Now Expanded to RC/UAV Aviation Week

Mississippi RCUAV Aviation Week

A Collaboration Between Mississippi Afterburner Jet Rally, Hinds Community College, and The Stealth Learning Company

April 26 – May 1

“Showcasing the future of unmanned aircraft, today”

“We Control 4 (400 feet) to the Floor”

Whether you are reading the newspaper, popular magazines, television or the cinema, unmanned aerial vehicles/systems (UAVs, UASs, drones, robotic aircraft) are one of the hottest topics in the news. Driven by their unprecedented combat records in both Persian Gulf Wars, UAVs project a bit of Star Wars mixed with a dash of HALO (the popular video game). The video game generation relates instantly to the capabilities of these new weapon systems. But the possibilities for these platforms to help the greater good have traditionally gone unnoticed.

The civilian applications of UAVs are on the verge of making a difference in the day-to-day lives of us all. Imagine, our borders being patrolled by low-cost unmanned aircraft and their video gamer crews. Imagine, our aging bridges being inspected by these platforms, or bringing you amazing shots in the next blockbuster movie. Furthermore, UAVs are poised to offer new job opportunities for our recovering economy by “offering jobs that are here today and not gone tomorrow.”

To take advantage of this opportunity we must upgrade our current training and education system. RCUAV Aviation Week seeks to use aviation as the inspiration for innovation in education, healthcare and other new job verticals.

RC/UAV Week Objectives:

·        Provide a platform that will promote and support the aviation program scholarship fundraising efforts of the Hinds Community College through Mississippi Afterburner annual Jet Fly-in

Major Thanks to Jet Central and Eric Clapp for the Donation of a Jet Central Super Bee Turbine to the Hinds Community College School of Aviation Technology

HCC teaches powerplant mechanics in the Aviation Tech school. Having the Super Bee will be a great teaching tool for demonstrating the operational cycles of a turbine engine. THANKS ERIC AND J.C.

The Mississippi Gang is a group of radio control jet pilots.  We fly many different types of aircraft, but jets are our main priority.  Some of the jets are capable of 200 miles per hour.  We travel the southeast flying our jets and hanging out with jet friends from across the USA.  This site contains information about us and our hobby along with some interesting links, so enjoy, and feel free to leave any comments or suggestions in the Guestbook.

After many pleasant and fun years hosting the event in Winona Mississippi, we relocated the event to John Bell Williams Airport located in Raymond, Mississippi. Michelle Jackson (airport manager) and Hinds Community College Aviation Technology School welcomed us with open arms and enthusiasm. HCC trains and certifies aviation techs, as well as pilot training through a commercial rating. In the years since, we have given all profits from the event to the Mississippi Jets Aviation Technology scholarship fund. This is the first scholarship the Aviation Tech school has ever had in it's 59 year history. Mississippi Jets R/C Club is proud to be their first sponsor. We have given thousands to the school since, with 2009 being our best so far. We donated $6500 to the scholarship fund from the 2009 event.
